HKBU confirms Preliminary Judging Panel for the 3rd Dream of the Red Chamber Award: The World

 The Faculty of Arts of Hong Kong Baptist University announces commencement of the preparatory work for the 3rd Dream Red Chamber Award. A Preliminary Judging Panel of 14 members comprising literary critics, Chief Editors of literary magazines and writers have been formally appointed.
 
The Faculty of Arts of HKBU founded The Dream of the Red Chamber Award: The World's Distinguished Novel in Chinese in 2005. It offers the highest cash prize among similar awards for a single winning novel – HK$300,000. The first and second The Dream of the Red Chamber Award winners were respectively Qin Melody (by Jia Pingwa) and Life, Death, Exhaustion (by Mo Yan).
 
A new member has been added to the Preliminary Judging Panel –Dr. Ngai Ling Tun of Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Other members include Prof. Chung Ling, Prof. Eva Man, Dr. Wong Leung Wo, Dr. Chu Siu Cheung, Prof. Stephen Chu Yiu Wai, Dr. William Ng Yau Nang, Dr. Lim Chin Chown, Ms. Wu Yin Ching, Mr. Cheung Chi Wo, Dr. Jessica Yeung, Dr. Hung Chi Kum, Dr. Lo Wai Luk, Mr. Ngan Shun Kau and Prof. Lo Kwai Cheung.
 
The Dream of the Red Chamber Award aims to encourage the publication of excellent Chinese novels worldwide, and to recognise outstanding Chinese novel writers from around the world to enhance the standards of Chinese novel-writing. In 2008, Mr. Zhang Dapeng donated HK$10 million to the Faculty of Arts to establish “The Dream of the Red Chamber Award: The World’s Distinguished Novel in Chinese––Zhang Dapeng Endowment Fund”, making the continuous running of the Award possible. The Dream of the Red Chamber Award runs once every two years.
 
Entries for the 3rd Dream of Red Chamber Award should be original novels of over 80,000 Chinese words published between 1st January 2008 and 31st December 2009. Because of the sheer number of Chinese novels published each year, for effective judging the Planning Committee has invited designated publishers to nominate entries since the 1st Award.
